Compose your football trips to Beşiktaş JK and experience a match in Vodafone Park
Go on a football trip to see the pioneering Besiktas JK. When Besiktas was established in 1903, it was illegal to start a sports club in Turkey – and football especially was frowned upon. So the club – the first official sports club in Turkey – wasn’t actually legit until 1910.
The club’s colours are black with white which is partly the reason for their nickname, the Black Eagles. Legend also suggests that during a 1941 game, the voice of a fisherman called Mehmet Galin was heard from the stands urging ‘the Black Eagles’ to attack! Besiktas won the game 6-0 and the nickname was adopted.
For 40 years, the home ground of Besiktas was Inönü Stadium in the west of Istanbul – on the European side – with a seating capacity of just over 32,000. However, this was mostly demolished – apart from its walls and historical tower – to make way for a new stadium, Vodafone Arena which is due to open in April 2015.
Our football packages to see Besiktas compete include a return flight, two or three nights in a 3-star hotel and tickets to the game!
The city Istanbul
Enjoy the vibrancy and diversity of a metropolis which uniquely spans two continents – Europe and Asia – with a football trip to Istanbul.
The city with a population of just over 14 million has one attraction after another. The possibilities for shoppers are endless: from dirt-cheap street sellers and markets to stylish shopping streets, an extraordinary Grand Bazaar and huge outlet centres. You can enjoy food at any time of the day here. And apart from the inevitable doner kebab shops, there are also countless lokantas (tradesmen’s restaurants) serving fresh home-style cooking and local specialties. And you can taste delicious cakes and pastries at the many pasthanes (bakeries). But whatever you do, don’t miss the seafood restaurants competing for trade on the narrow paved streets and bridges over the Bosphorus.
The Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia museums in the old centre of Istanbul together form a breathtaking cityscape. While more recent history is being written in the Taksimin Square – famed for its restaurants, shops, and hotels – considered the heart of modern Istanbul.
Topkapi Palace with the harem quarters of the sultan are an absolute must-see. You must also visit an authentic coffee shop or book a cruise along the beautiful Bosphorus where countless beautiful yari (shore-front villas) line the banks.
A football package to Istanbul will leave you wanting more…
The Vodafone Arena
Book your football trip Besiktas to see the shiny new stadium, Vodafone Arena.
Currently being built on the site of the old Inönü Stadium, Vodafone Arena will be an all-seater, multi-purpose stadium serving as the home ground of Besiktas in the district of the same name in Istanbul. It’s due to be opened in April 2015 season and will have a capacity of just over 41,000.
