Compose your football trip to Fenerbahçe SK and experience a match in Şükrü Saracoğlustadion
Get a taste of top Turkish football with a football trip to see – Fenerbahçe SK – and experience first-hand the passion for this much-loved Istanbul club. The popularity of the football club here is incomparable. In 1966-67, Fenerbahce became the first Turkish club to win an international competition. And between 2010 and 2012 they were undefeated in 47 successive matches.
Rivalry with Galatasaray – also based in Istanbul – is huge. And tensions run high when the teams compete. In fact, the battle between these fellow-townsmen is renowned as one of the biggest derbies in the world.
In short: a true Turkish football experience, combined with the city of Istanbul, is an experience like no other!
The city Istanbul
Enjoy the vibrancy and diversity of a metropolis which uniquely spans two continents – Europe and Asia – with a football trip to Istanbul.
The city with a population of just over 14 million has one attraction after another. The possibilities for shoppers are endless: from dirt-cheap street sellers and markets to stylish shopping streets, an extraordinary Grand Bazaar and huge outlet centres. You can enjoy food at any time of the day here. And apart from the inevitable doner kebab shops, there are also countless lokantas (tradesmen’s restaurants) serving fresh home-style cooking and local specialties. And you can taste delicious cakes and pastries at the many pasthanes (bakeries). But whatever you do, don’t miss the seafood restaurants competing for trade on the narrow paved streets and bridges over the Bosphorus.
The Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace and Hagia Sophia museums in the old centre of Istanbul together form a breathtaking cityscape. While more recent history is being written in the Taksimin Square – famed for its restaurants, shops, and hotels – considered the heart of modern Istanbul.
Topkapi Palace with the harem quarters of the sultan are an absolute must-see. You must also visit an authentic coffee shop or book a cruise along the beautiful Bosphorus where countless beautiful yari (shore-front villas) line the banks.
A football package to Istanbul will leave you wanting more…
The Ülker Arena
Experience the passion for Fenerbahçe SK with a football trip to Ülker Arena – formerly known as Sukru Saracoglu Stadium before a lucrative sponsorship deal with Ülker, a Turkish manufacturer of food products, was sealed.
The stadium, on the Asian side of the Bosphorus which dissects Istanbul– and Asia and Europe – currently has seating for 55,509. However, should Fenerbahçe finish the 2014-2015 season as league champions for the 20th time, plans are afoot to increase the capacity to 65,000.
