Stade Louis II

AS Monaco – Stade Louis II

The current Stade Louis II was opened in 1985. The original Stade Louis II existed much earlier, namely in 1939. In the early 1980s, however, it was decided that a new stadium had to be built, so this became the new Stade Louis II. The stadium is named after the former Prince of Monaco Louis II. Around 18,500 football fans can fit into the stadium, which is about half the total population of Monaco (36,400). Stade Louis II is currently used mainly by football club AS Monaco, which plays in the Ligue 1. In addition, the national team of Monaco also plays its matches in this stadium.
