1. FC Barcelona

In fact, there is only one football club, which is really the Barcelona football club, namely FC Barcelona. Founded on November 29, 1899 by the Swiss Johan Joan Gamper. Since its foundation, FC Barcelona has achieved many successes. The club had some ups and downs in the 1980s, but when Johan Cruyff returned to the club in 1988 as a coach, the most successful period in the club’s history began. Cruyff FC Barcelona won four national titles and the European Cup 1. In the years that followed, Bobby Robson and Louis van Gaal were among the coaches at Camp Nou, and FC Barcelona remained very successful. Under the Spanish coach Josep Guardiola, FC Barcelona was the first club in 2009 to win all six club team prizes in a year. That year they won the Champions League, the national championship, the Spanish cup, the European Super cup, the Spanish Super cup and the World Championship for clubs. The absolute star of FC Barcelona is Lionel Messi. He also has a large share in the successes of FC Barcelona in recent years. The staggering number of goals and assists per season earned him, in addition to prizes with FC Barcelona, the Golden Ball five times, the prize for best footballer in the world.

Camp Nou Barcelona

The stadium in which FC Barcelona plays its home games is the immensely large Camp Nou. Some say Nou Camp, which means new field. Opened in 1957, with a capacity of 93053 at that time. Gradually this has been increased to 99053 places. The stadium is easily accessible by metro. The Collblanc (Lijn5) stop is a 5-minute walk from the stadium. Badal metro stop is also near the Stadium. Another option is to go by bike!
Tip! Depending on the period in which you attend an FC Barcelona match, the temperature can be quite chilly. Take a blanket or put on a warm sweater.

2. RCD Espanyol

Reial Club Deportiu Espanyol, or RCD Espanyol, was founded on October 20, 1900 in response to the creation of FC Barcelona. It was the first club founded by Spaniards. Since the foundation of the Primera Division in 1928, the club has never been able to win the league title. RCD Espanyol did win the Spanish Cup four times, the last one in 2006. They were twice in the final of the UEFA Cup, both of which they lost each time after taking penalties.

Stadium Espanyol

From 1997 to 2009, Espanyol played the home games in the Lluis Companys stadium. The new Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, with a capacity of 42,000 spectators, was opened on 2 August 2009. Before the opening, a friendly match between Espanyol and Liverpool FC was completed. The match was won 3-0 by Espanyol.
